It would seem that whomever created your company's custom font set the "flag
of death". That and the following are the "non-technical" explanations of
your problem.

There is a setting in Fontographer that is often overlooked. This flag
enters a setting in the font that generates a licensing restriction. Acrobat
is one of the few apps that seems to look at this setting. The setting tells
Acrobat that the font may not be embedded in the file because the creator of
the font does not want the font distributed.

I would get in touch with the font company and have this restriction
removed. It is likely a mistake or oversight on the company's part. If you
have Macromedia Fontographer you may turn this off and recreate the font but
that is not legal.
