TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Along with a hundred or so of my co-Techwhirlers, I chose "Yes, on selected
projects or for selected causes"... and I did have in mind situations like
last night's, when I was out to dinner with my parents (my mother's 66th
birthday). My mother has a new mobile phone. My father has a new laptop. I'm
invited round to dinner next Thursday to explain each to each. <g> Hmmm...
does "dinner" count as "direct compensation" though? My father paid last
night, I left the tip. <g>

well..."
