>>Where I'm currently employed (and every other place I've worked) salary
>>information is considered confidential. We're not to discuss the topic of
>>how much we make with other employees, let alone someone not employed here.
>>Knowing that, if ANYONE asks me how much I earn, I merely state it's company
>>confidential information and I'm not to discuss it.
This helps only the company and not you. The confidentiality of my salary is
very much my right to a secret ballot at election time. I can keep it secret if
I want, but I am equally free to scream it from the rooftops. Companies don't
want you to discuss salaries so that you don't find out they're paying all the
new hires twice your salary for the same job while at the same time defending
the heinous position that "curent economic realities" make cost of living
adjustments is the best they can do.
