TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I have to agree with Dannette. I read the question the same way she did,
and I would have to say that for the people who pick up and read technical
writing, tech writing is a stepping stone to help them achieve other goals:
installing software, building a piece of furniture, operating a robot,
repairing a jet engine, etc.
For me personally, technical writing is a way to earn money, interact with
other humans on a daily basis, and have exposure to technology--three things
I enjoy spending my time doing.
