TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
... some people who call themselves technical
writers are worth about $10 to $20 an hour? (In some cases, that would
be generous.) ...
The other side of that coin is that some kinds of "technical" writing are
also only worth $10-20 per hour, regardless of the talent level of the
writer. It would be interesting to know what kinds of projects are being
farmed out via entities like eLance. I suspect it's mostly pretty low-level
work, rather than anything challenging or complex.
