Actually, you may not have to negotiate for the rights to distribute the
books. Unless you are attempting to get a re-sellers discount on the books
(30-50% off cover price). If you are only buying bulk (typically 20-25%
off) you do not need a resellers or distribution license. No matter what, I
would check with a lawyer.

Microware Systems distributed K & R's "The C Language" back in the early and
mid eighties with their C Compiler. It was a nice $50 value (???). When
they stopped sending it, they didn't decrease the cost of the package (of
course).

I like the idea of reviewing good books instead of including them with the
package, but you could also make package deals to include one or more third
party books. This would be over and above the basic pack. It is really a
marketing issue on how it is handled.

You'd still need to negotiate for the rights to distribute the books. The
books add value to the material they ship with, and the publishers/writers
would have a claim on some of that value.
