Re: Photoshop and Graphics Work
2. Are there any books I could get that cover basic graphical design? I
am looking for a source that will help with determining what graphic
format to use with certain situations. Unfortunately, my knowledge of
graphics is pretty limited.
I would highly recommend the book "Designing Web Graphics: How to Prepare Images and Media for the Web" by Lynda Weinman, published by New Riders Publishing; @nd edition 1997; ISBN 1-56205-715-4 for the basics.
If you truly intend to use Photoshop, pick up the Photoshop Bible (mine is for Version 5), Gold Edition, by Deke McClelland; published by IDG Books; 1999; ISBN 0-7645-3372-X.
If you can swing it, see if you can get them to spring for a copy of Macromedia Fireworks. It's much better suited to creating graphics for the web. You can also use it to generate a fair bit of HTML/JavaScript code for sophisticated menubars, disjointed rollovers, etc.
