I co-wrote a screenplay a couple of years ago (with a friend who is VERY
talented & should be doing it full-time). One thing I liked about the
experience was that I was writing for myself and my own enjoyment, which (I
think) helps prevent professional burnout. I'm not sure I'd like to do
creative writing full-time, because I'm inclined in some small way to
resent anything I "have" to do for a living. I'd hate to taint creative
writing for myself in that way.
Then again, some of the professional writing I've done is pretty darn
creative (marcomm, documenting vaporware, etc.)
Side note: if you think dealing with recalcitrant SME's is difficult, try
selling a spec script to Hollywood agents/studio execs sometime! sheesh....
