RE: Writing: better or worse after years on the job?
Subject:RE: Writing: better or worse after years on the job? From:Jim Shaeffer <jims -at- spsi -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 12 Oct 2001 09:59:37 -0400
I think one could examine the career of a number of
popular novelists (not all) and demonstrate a 'decline
in writing skills over time.'
I think that one thing that happens is that we tech
writers and those pop writers can fall into a pattern
of filling in the blanks in a 'cookie-cutter template'
that works most of the time.
It does not feel expressive or creative but can be
done with no waseted energy and a minimal amount of
attention to the job.
For example, I'm currently reading a best-selling
suspense novel where I can see the seams (dialog here,
summary of character backgound here, action sequence
here, etc.)
