If you're still having problems opening your mystery *.dat file,
you might want to try Conversions Plus by Dataviz. I've found
this utility to be an inexpensive godsend on several similar
occasions. It runs in Windows and allows you to read files
written in umpteen different formats, both Mac and PC, and to
convert them to something you can use. It also allows you to
read and write to Mac-formatted disks. It'll even format disks
in the Mac formatting. It's just plain great. Visit
<www.dataviz.com> to find out the gruesome details.
Oh yeah -- I have no interests in the company other than being a
very happy customer.
