That most important skill?
The ability to work with others, to be able to draw information out of the
SME's.
You can learn a system/application/software - but in my varied experience
being able to gain that information from the SME's and translate that
information is a TW's most valuable skill. To get that you must know how to
talk and listen to people.
Thus courses on negotiation and the like are very useful - as you learn how
to deal with people - real people. Such courses can also make the
office/company environment more user-friendly, and is helpful in areas such
as salary negotiations, getting that new laptop.
So an open mind, and the ability to talk and listen (listen = hearing and
understanding).
Everything is easy after that, for in the end we all deal with people, not
machines or software. :-)
regards and thanks,
Sean O'Donoghue-Hayes
