I have the interesting job of writing about privacy-defending technology,
with the openly stated intent of defeating measures like carnivore. It
makes for some interesting work, trying to present our position without
either being ridiculously fiery or understing anything important.

My attempt at dealing with the political issues is:
http://www.freeswan.org/freeswan_trees/freeswan-1.91/doc/politics.html

I don't think I could do this if I didn't believe in the objectives I
describe there. If I switched sides and started working on carnivore,
I'd have to stop shaving because I couldn't face myself in the mirror.

I suspect there are quite a few writers working on things they think
are politically or socially desirable. Of course, there's huge variety
in the definition of those terms. Likely there are people working on
Carnivore and Echelon who think they're serving their society well
and my project are dangerous subvervises.
