that I think it's the best one on the market:

HTML for the World Wide Web
by Elizabeth Castro
a Visual QuickStart Guide from Peachpit Press

It's not full of dumb cutesy jokes, but how-to examples with HTML code and
the resulting pages. I think it's ideal for getting anyone up to speed with
HTML and all the related issues you need to understand to create a Web site.
