Yes, Bruce, I do think it doesn't hurt. When I see professional organizations
on a resume, I'm not turned off by them, nor do I consider that the mention of
professional organizations gives the person a leg up, so to speak. The most it
tells me is that this person knows what the professional organizations of a
profession are. Of course, the question always is, "What can they do for ME?"
(Actually, when I wrote that I didn't think having professional organizations
on your resume hurt you, I was thinking of something my late father in-law said
when my wife complained that her ex-mother in-law had her daughter baptized
without my wife's permission, and without even inviting her to the event. My
father in-law said, "It (the baptism) probably won't hurt her." I can further
attest that some 20 years later, the baptism does not seem to have hurt her.) <g>
