There have been many a days when I have cursed Bill Gates and the Word
2000 creation, err...Word 97 "modification." Ms. Legsdin mentioned
"automatic page numbering" and I must chuckle too, but it does not compare
to the joy of autonumbering and auto-header numbering, especially when
used within tables...oh the joy.
Want some real fun with Word 2k? Create a file that is graphically
intense. Try printing the afforementioned document and watch your RAM
disappear. A 100mb file uses over 512Mb of RAM when printing...what fun.
The quick, or not so quick, fix is converting it to PDF and then printing.
In the days of ultimate frustration, when I am thoroughly upset with all
things from the Silicon Valley, and that currently reside in or near
Seattle, I remember why Microsoft has bloomed so rapidly. It is nice to
remember that Windows was designed to make computer use a little bit
easier for the rest of us, however, (comma, pause for effect) it offers no
solace to the fact that I cannot efficiently complete my task.
There is something to be said of "Might Makes Right" as I imagine that
Word is the most commonly used word processing software in the world. (?)
I haven't found too much Word doesn't do, but I have negotiated my way
through a slew of things Word doesn't do well.
