While you're working on your tech writing courses, keep your eye out for
entry-level jobs. Don't miss out on opportunities just because you're not
officially "certified" or whatever.
But that's part of the problem, actually--just about every single tech
writing/documentation specialist position I've seen is not entry level, per se.
The average is about 3 years of experience and knowledge of at least three
different types of software. But then again, I'm looking for jobs in Silicon
Valley, so that could be an explanation in and of itself...
Unless there's more money in vacuum cleaners than I know about, even
entry-level tech writing jobs tend to pay a comfortable salary, and you'd
be getting on-the-job experience to reinforce what your classes teach you.
If I could find one , believe me, I'd be all over it. Maybe I need to check the
job boards a bit more...
thanks for your help!
Shavon
