There is a difference in the standard to which men and women are held
to in first interview. Women need to appear prossional. Men need to
wear a suit.
I wouldn't EXPECT a women to wear a suit, though if worn, wouldn't
hurt. I DO expect a man to wear a suit, at least in the first
interview. Then, a suit only if:
1) the company wears suits, or
2) the subsequent interview is with a level of person who normaly
wears suits, such as CEO, CIO, CFO.
The only exception is if the interview is with a
Sales/Marketing-oriented person...then always wear a suit.
If the people with who you are interviewing at subsequent interviews
dress down, I'd only dress a level above them. Example: if they wear
t-shirts, I'd wear a golf-type shirt. If they wear that, I'd put a
jacket over it. If they do that, then a sportjacket, slacks and a
tie.
