Wow. This has been an illuminating thread.

Previous threads have shown that most writers vehemently oppose the idea
of being asked to take a writing test during an interview. I was one of
the few in favor of giving writing tests, a stance which I was told made
me a mean nasty person who posed unfair pressure on job applicants.

Yet it seems that many writers' resumes (regardless of their appearance
and content) will be discarded for having been created using a method that
differs from how the interviewer would use a certain piece of software,
even though knowledge of that software is not being advertised as a job
requirement, and that software will not be used as part of the job.

And that's fair.
