Something I forgot to mention:
One reason that I introduced this topic is to see whether there's any
interest in creating a repository of scripts that others can use. In
most cases, scripts are used for repetitive tasks or maintenance, so
there's not much in them that would be proprietary or subject to an NDA
except perhaps some easily modified path names. Those who already use
scripts could pull what they need from the repository, and the very
existence of the repository might encourage others to explore the
scripts and maybe learn a little more. Perl, Python, PHP - it doesn't
really matter what language writers are exposed to so much as exposure
to any one of them could help many writers to know more about their jobs.
