Another example - International English
generally uses the American billion (1,000,000,000) as opposed to the
British (1,000,000,000,000), which is becoming less and less common.
<snip>

That is true and it may be an issue during internationalization.

For example, the German billion corresponds to the British one.

American billion 1,000,000,000

English billion 1,000,000,000,000

German billion 1 000 000 000 000 (empty space as separator)

(In other countries and languages, it may be different.)

Another item:

In Germany, 1,000=1.000=1

Comma is usually the decimal separator to separate the integers, but more and more also the dot is accepted, due to computer applications and calculators using dots.

A common misunderstanding is the writing of the seven and of the one. A handwritten German "1" is very often understood as "7" in the USA and vice versa. The "1" is written as "|" in the USA, and the "7" is written similar to the printed "1"

Best regards
Bernd
