The problem is that without a clear understanding
of what the employer is looking for as a result of
the test (change in content, spelling only, grammar
only, simplification, etc.) the candidate can only
guess as to what the employer is looking for.
I took a test at one company, but wasn't provided
enough to determine what skills they were looking
for, so I asked . . . no response . . . guessed
(probably wrong) and did not get the job. Their loss.
Their job application contained spelling, grammar,
formatting errors, and an unanswerable question.
I provided feedback on the app, which they did
NOT appreciate. Turns out to have been written
by the company president!
I got the job I have now through my portfolio
accompanied by detailed questions of my work,
no test.
