Very weird, Sean. This same exact thing happened to me just before lunch today. I don't have a clue what really happened. I closed and saved. The hourglass hummed for a bit. Nothing else happened. I'm on NT, so I checked the Task Manager. Word is not responding. OK, killed it, expecting to coe back to a few missing edits, but I save regularly as I work, so no bigg deal, right?
Nope. When I went to open th4e doc, word told me it detected some corruption, did I want to continue. And when it finally opened, no formatting. A happy little text file with a .doc extension. Happily I found a .tmp backup from late yesterday that opened sweetly, so I've only lost this morning's little bit of work. I copied all but the last paragraph mark into a new doc, just in case.
Just thought I'd cheer you up by letting you know I share your pain. :)

Hi all.
Something strange just happened to one of my word docs.
I was working on a doc, and click the close button. Because I hadn't saved it, I got the typical "Do you want to save your changes" prompt. I clicked yes. I came back to the doc a few minutes later and opened it. It now looks like a plain text file. All of the styles are gone, the tables are gone. The graphics are gone. It's looks like a happy little text file with a DOC file extension.
