Frank Kronberg wonders: <<I need some feedback on the
differences/similarities between the definitions of these two words
[ubiquitous vs pervasive] as they would be used by a technical writer when
discussing distributed/technical computing>>

As the dictionary notes, "ubiquitous" means "constantly encountered or
everywhere", whereas "pervasive" means "diffused through every part of".
They're similar enough that the definitions overlap somewhat, but
"ubiquitous" (as shown by the first part of the definition) isn't quite as
strong as "pervasive". In your particular case, "pervasive computing" seems
to be the term of choice; check out links such as
http://www-3.ibm.com/pvc/index.shtml for an example of this usage.
