I use Auto-recover feature far more often than I would like to. I have a
135Mb document (yes, it's that big cause of Hi-resolution digital pictures)
that has been recovered near flawlessly on a number of occasions 9/10. The
problem is that I have Word set to save recovery information quite
frequently, say every 5 or 6 minutes. The problem is that with a document
that large, it takes several minutes to save. That is a big pain in the
butt when it comes to productivity, but it is less of a pain in the butt
than losing a day, or even 3 hours worth of work. When I work on a more
stable document, I set it to save less frequently. I don't have a problem,
and just like seat belts, I have the option to use it only if I want to.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So Microsoft made some
mistakes with Word...at least they are wise enough to acknowledge their
mistakes and have a way of (sometimes) recovering from them...no? There is
always hope for the next go'round.
