I believe there are also NVLAP procedures that must be followed and the lab
must be NVLAP accredited. This is probably under the umbrella of the EPA. I
know that if you are trying to determine if there is lead in drinking water
(old pipes), NVLAP is used.
I'm not sure US EPA or FDA procedures would be appropriate, since the original poster apparently works in Canada. I assume there are corresponding agencies within the Canadian government structure, but haven't the foggiest idea what they are.
