1) I need to show two dialog boxes together to indicate a relationship.
2) Some element of the dialog box, like a drop-down menu, expands
outside the boundaries of the dialog box.
My solution is to capture the two screens separately and merge them in a
photoeditor, like Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paintshop Pro, etc. I use a
screen capture utility to make the initial captures--and could likely
also use it (SnagIT) to merge the two captures, I have just never tried.

Sometimes it's valuable to show the relationship between windows. For
example, say you were showing a first-time computer user what a tool tip
(or What's This help) looks like--layering them, so that the tip pane
was offset a little, would help make it clear that it isn't part of the
underlying application window.
