::: To bring this back on point regarding client requirements, perhaps
::: FrameMaker wasn't the best of examples. Put another way, if the
::: client requires me to deliver in PDF, it doesn't matter what I use
::: to create that PDF file. If the client requires ASCII text, it
::: doesn't matter what I use to create the file. Ditto HTML.
:::
::: All I said was that the client could specify the deliverable, but
::: not what was used to create it.

And what of maintenance? What of corporate style and template?

Myself, I ask my clients what they want me to use. If they say "I don't
care" then I look at their existing workflows. If they are maintaining
the deliverable after my contract is over, I make sure they're able to
use what I gave them (and yes, I give them the source files, as they've
paid for them as part of the contract price).
