I have to agree with Bryan about being thankful for job interviews or offers
that didn't work out...my previous 2 job offers in 2000 were with companies
that have since cut loose most if not all of their technical writing staff.
One of those positions for which I interviewed was "Director of Worldwide
Technical Media" reporting to the VP of Corporate Communication, yet the
"technical writing staff" consisted of 3 graphics designers who had to
devote 70% of their time to documentation (how long do you think they hung
around?). The expectation was that I would put in place a strong tech
writing team with a budget that was less than 50% of what I needed.
I ran away screaming from that last interview...
