As the owner of a staffing company that places technical writers, I am
constantly amazed by the number of "experienced" technical writers who
immediately knock themselves out of the running for a job because they have
typos or errors in their resumes.
For example, not a day goes by when I don't see a resume with a mix of
hyphens and en dashes in the employment date ranges (Word can be soooo
helpful...).
And while people argue that one small error in a resume should not
automatically disqualify them, there are so many QUALIFIED candidates
looking for work right now that employers WILL disqualify those who haven't
taken the time or attention to make sure their resume is correct -- it is,
after all, the first sample of your writing that an employer sees.
