Interesting analogy. It actually proves exactly the opposite point of the point
trying to be made. The economics and methods of shipping and indeed a lot of the
design of the methods used doesn't involve the product being shipped.

The design and operation of a trailer truck for example is influenced one bit by
the loads it may be towing. Railway routes are judged and designed to be
profitable based purely on how many tons of cargo are to be moved not on the
actual cargo. Container ships don't care what's in the thousands of containers
they transport back and forth over the ocean.

Therefor, transportation companies involved in the design and logistics can be
involved in numerous associations that deals with different aspects of the
industry where their interests overlap. Trucking, rail, and shipping are
interested in inter-modal container design. Coal, steel, and other mining
companies can be involved in rail, truck, and shipping initiatives But to
discuss coal, steel, or denim jeans, they turn to another industry group.

Of course there are exceptions, but even the exceptions have commonalties. A
natural gas transport ship's design is intimately related to it's cargo and its
profitability is uniquely tied to the delivery of one product. But, the engines,
controls, and the basic theory of floatation and hydrodynamics is common with
every other ocean going vessel.

Based on all this it's not too difficult to understand content and delivery of
content as topics that can be talked about separately. But as some one already
opined: it may just be that's two ideas too many for some.

If your content is server security products and mine is railroad equipment the
only reason the two of us would be on the same list or a member of the same
organisation is
to discuss and improve the act and methods of communicating.
