FrameMaker can use the image files that aren't checked out, as long as it
has local copies of them. The easiest thing to do is to right-click the
FrameMaker project folder and choose Get Latest from the pop-up menu.
Make sure you select "Recursive" so it will follow the paths and get all
of the subdirectories.
VSS doesn't damage binaries the way CVS can (if you don't use the correct
options).
As an additional tip, you can also check out everything in an entire
folder at once, by right-clicking the folder on the left-hand pane and
choosing Check Out.
By the way, don't get confused between "check out" in VSS vs CVS. In CVS
"checking out" means retrieving a copy but *not* taking exclusive control
of the file, while in VSS checking out means getting the latest for
editing and locking anyone else out until you check it back in.
Hope this helps,
Mike
