Many thanks for all on- and off-list replies. The idea of using VSS for my
Framemaker files and images sounds more and more promising!
Two final questions:
1. Is it possible to use VSS as a standalone on my own computer, with no
server, and store the projects on my own (backed-up) hard disk? I know that
the SW dept will complain if I ask if I can check in the 6000+ image files
(5-10 GB) on their server, since they are used to dealing with text files. I
tried to find info in the Help file and on the VSS main page but to no
avail.
2. Now the images are stored in folders on my hard disk drive with 500
images in each folder, with sequential numbers as file names. One manual may
have referenced images in folder 1, 3, 6, 7, 14 etc while another manual may
have referenced images in other folders. This means that the first time I
work on a specific manual, I will most likely need to "Get latest..." of the
whole image library from VSS to my working folder. Correct? And next time I
work with a manual, if I have changed an image file, carrying out the "Get
latest..." will only copy the changed image file to the working folder?
Best regards,
Mats Broberg
