VSS has no server component, so this scenario works fine. just make sure you
keep good backups.

You can do a GET on a file, a group of selected files, a folder, group of
folders, or an entire project. GET will not determone which files have
changed since your last GET however. This is a good scenario for using a
mirror folder. Each time you modify a file, a copy is posted to the mirror
folder.
