I document XML content-creation software products (the XMetaL family).
Because most of our products are highly customizable, we have three
levels of documentation: API documentation aimed primarily at
developers; mid-level customization documentation aimed at "techie
types" who may or may not be developers but who generally have a pretty
good grasp of IT and XML; and end-user documentation for the people who
actually use the product to create content (and who may know or care
very little about IT or XML).
