You can get a missing font error when you change printers, but only if
your document is using printer-resident fonts. (Each printer comes with
or doesn't come with certain fonts.) This is an operator error and not a
Windows or FrameMaker problem. The trick is to use only those fonts you
have installed on your hard drive. Don't use printer-resident fonts.

Isn't the "unavailable fonts" problem also related to the
default printer on Windows? I recall some time ago getting
piles of "unavailable fonts" messages back when our printer
was replaced. I guess they hadn't loaded all the right
fonts on the new printer, so Frame was complaining. I made
a different printer, one with the required fonts, my default,
and the problem went away. Once they loaded the right fonts
onto the new printer, I was able to set it as my default with
no problems.
They call it Windows because it makes you want to defenestrate
your computer.
