Like Nora, I've often found "that an unreasonable deadline
for ME is also an unreasonable deadline for the engineers.
Thus, projects slip, my deadlines slip, and everyone gets
some breathing room."
In some companies, if I'd taken every deadline seriously
I'd have remained in a permanent state of panic, year in
and year out.
Eventually I observed that the only serious deadlines
are on the last day of the financial quarter. YMMV.
