Subject:RE: using a slogan on a resume From:Martha J Davidson <editrix -at- nemasys -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 17 Jan 2003 19:36:34 -0800
I don't have a slogan at the top of my resume, only a Summary section
that I believe captures the essence of what I offer as a tech writer
with 20+ years of experience. I do, however, include a link to my
online portfolio, which uses the slogan-like phrase "Dances With
Words" as its title. I don't know for sure how people have responded
to the title on my portfolio pages, but I can say that I've gotten
several bites on my resume since the first of the year.
As a data point, for those who are watching such things, I have had
four interviews in the last two weeks, two of which turned into
offers. I accepted an offer today for a "permanent" job with a salary
that's more than my starting salary at my last job. It's a software
startup in Mountain View (in the heart of Silicon Valley), which is a
further commute than I've had in my last few jobs, but I figure a
40-mile drive is worth it in this case. I hope this is a sign that
things are getting better for everyone.
"If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?
If not now, when?"
