TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
>A year ago, Ms. Ray posted this poll
>(http://www.raycomm.com/techwhirl/polls/techwhirlpollresults.php3?pollID
>=99), which indicated that less than 18% of technical writers had online
>portfolios. Presumably that number has gone up, but clearly the vast
>majority of writers don't have Web sites.
Actually, Darren, the situation might not be quite so bleak. The actual
poll question was:
"As a technical writer, do you maintain an online portfolio of writing and
related samples:"
I have a website, and have delivered documentation completely as web pages,
but I would have answered "no" to that question, because my portfolio is
not on my website. There could very well be other people like me, who
despite the fact that they *could* have an online portfolio, in fact, don't.
