FWIW, while I agree with you that everyone has their own personal situations
to consider in the work/life balance, I do have to point out that most
single parents I know (myself included), often put in far more than 40
hrs/wk, sometimes at multiple, lower-paying jobs. I felt very fortunate to
be able to "get by" with a 55-65 hr/wk as an mid-level TW when I joined the
single-parent ranks.
