These days, nothing is a cinch, especially when whole
companies go down the chute. And you're right, a person
who consistently beats their deadlines without working
extra hours will impress more than one who consistently
works the hours to meet theirs. But in an environment
where work always seems to expand to exceed the available
resources, the person who demonstrates a willingness to
stay the extra hours to take on *extra* work in addition
their current workload when the group is in a bind is the
most impressive of all.

Ok... I have to say... thinking that you're a cinch to keep your job
just because you put in "above and beyond" hours is not always the case.
