RE: Creative Writer vs. Tech Writer (Was: what to look for in a Tech Editor)

Me too.
I am all of the following (among other things): often published short
story writer; still seeking the Lucky Publisher of my first novel;
employed full time presently as a tech writer; veteran of 15 years as a
tech editor and sometimes tech writer; also willing to admit to a
checkered past in video production.
I've always thought of my tech editing gigs as being very similar to the
work my friends in accounting do, only with words instead of numbers.
Tech writing reminds me of journalism with geek sources and the
requirement to produce the results in the form of a villanelle.
Creative writing is almost wholly different. It is something I HAVE to
do (often to my dismay and the even greater dismay of various neglected
partners, pets, and blood relatives), regardless of "reward." The muse
is a b*tch. (My muse, anyway.)
