technical writing. But maybe that depends on your area.

Think about this: Tech writers are an expense that adds to the cost of the product and reduce profits. Marcomm writers are part of the sales team. They are the ones who sell the product and bring cash into the company. The sales team ALWAYS gets paid best. Without sales and the income they generate, the company isn't worth much and won't last long.
