TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
As a relative "newbie," I can say that I have yet to
see where people have been intentionally rude or
disparaging. A little off topic sometimes, but
despite those deviations I usually gleem some new
nugget of insight daily.
As technical writers it is important that we have
"thick skin." You can put in an outstanding
performance on a set of documentation and still have
someone chew it up for any myriad of reasons - "I'm
having a bad hair day - start this manual over again."
Besides, it's important to not let a list serve group
make you "feel like the biggest loser...." Life isn't
just about what happens to you, it's about how you
respond to it.
> "...These have been the most horrible four days
> of my professional life on account of your list
> and its members making me feel like the biggest
> loser..."
