TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
"...These have been the most horrible four days
of my professional life on account of your list
and its members making me feel like the biggest
loser..."
>>
Regarding that, I am making the assumption that this person is less than 5 years in the field... or maybe even a newer technical writer... Like most of us, I have collected a lot of "war stories" over 18+ years of technical writing and there is not much y'all could dish out to me that would beat those experiences.
That said, I have at times put the more caustic members of this list on my "send to the trash" list just because even as an old, old tech writer I sometimes find the manners here less than bearable!
I also don't know how we could have a "be nice to newbies" rule when we can't even seem to stay on-topic with technical writing within any given week.
I would love a "war stories" thread though and would be sure that soon, someone here would definitely trump any of my odd collection of stories (the time I did an index by hand, the VP that scared me so bad I barricaded myself in the proposal office on my last day, etc.... )
