Geoff...I think he's talking about you. :-)
Can I answer this seriously?
Everyone should be trying to make mistakes every day (different ones each
time...if you make the same one each time, then you're simply an
idiot)...you will learn from every one of those mistakes. At the same time,
this list is the closest you'll ever come to having multiple answers to
every technical writing question you could ever have, that could help you to
minimize those mistakes (think about that). Would you say it's accurate to
guess that there is way more than 25,000 years of technical writing
experience at the end of your network/phone cable, and the fee for all that
information is to sometimes experience the result of someone having a bad
day and answering based on what is going on in their life at the moment...is
that so hard to take? god knows, I've received some off-line responses that
made my network cable glow bright red (I showed someone one of them
yesterday). However, it never made me think for one moment that I should
leave the list...I'd only be screwing myself.
Yes...sometimes we're experiencing a serious problem at work, and at the
same time, trying to be helpful to someone with a question. At the same
times, we're human and we consciously (or subconsciously) take that
opportunity to include a little venting in that response. Is it wrong? Sure.
it is human? Sure. If it causes you fall apart, it probably has little to do
with us, it was going to happen anyway..it was just timing.
