Hello,

I work at a small company with an unusually strict protocol -- up until a
couple of weeks ago, every question I had for a developer (or anyone) had to
go up to my boss, maybe up another level, over, and then down to the person
who had the answer. Ridiculous, I know.

Now, I'm allowed to contact people directly. I love it -- I've learned more
in one week than I had in the previous 3 months. It seems to be a bit of an
adjustment for my boss, though.

She's got a training background, but doesn't have strong tech skills and has
only a vague understanding of what documentation is all about. She knows the
product very well, but not in a very technical way, and the projects I'm
working on are increasingly technical in nature.

So I think she's a bit puzzled about what her role is, and what value she
brings to the table, now that she's no longer my gatekeeper, or the person I
go to with every question about the product. I'm a bit puzzled about it,
too.

Any thoughts?
Brian
