I teach Lingo programming to future graphic designers. Lingo will be used by very very few of them, so I hear them complaining all the time. I tell them the logic behind it is the same for every programming language.
School shapes the way we think, it opens up our mind to new ways of seeing the world. It helps us develop mental processes that will be useful in certain areas. It also teaches us how to keep learning after school.
