There was a time when I thought loyalty to your company really did mean
something. I proudly bought things with the company logo on them, I
made an effort to buy merchandise from my company when I could. Went to
every rah-rah meeting and event I was supposed to. And in the end, it
didn't help me at all. They still cut the tech comm team out of the
group I was with.
Companies talk about loyalty only so they can slip clauses into
contracts and agreements that if you leave to go to a competing company,
you can't take half of your team with you. Unless your company is doing
stuff for the department of defense, it's a safe bet that your
competitors know what your company is doing anyway.
