TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
On the other hand, I've been in a hiring position for a bit, and I've
continued the policy in place before I got here of asking for writing samples
before the interview. It's something of a special case, since I've been
looking for people who can document some very complicated software. I want
to see the technical level of their samples, as well as get a feel for their
style in documenting that level of software.
It's also the case that I thumbs downed someone last week because a cursory
look at their writing sample spotted two spelling mistakes and a very badly
written sentence. I didn't bother to go on.
