TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Sometimes you have to be just plain good at one task in order to become exceptional at the other. For exemple, I am OK at translating technical manuals from Spanish to French, but I am very good at translating manuals from English to French. Quality is about the same, but speed is not. Good vs very good.
I am very good at automating processes, I only get by with graphic design.
I am very good at knowing where I bring value, therefore when I need complex graphics, I just send an email to the guy upstairs and thank my boss for hiring a graphic designer.

France...I haven't seen your stuff. You may very well be Paganini of the
Procedure Manual.

and by the way...plain good maybe good enough in situation A, but not for
situation B. Being VERY good just increases the chances that you'll be good
enough all the time.
